BEACH STEWARDSHIP

Balancing use and the unique environment

The PFBHA seeks to balance recreational use of the beach area with preservation of the natural environmental processes that create the unique dune ecosystem.  Port Franks beach is classified as a “dynamic beach” because by definition it is an area of inherently unstable accumulations of shoreline sediments.  PFBHA recognizes that Port Franks beach is a “dynamic” ecosystem which is regularly affected by changing lake levels, wind and water conditions.  Also, its specific geographic location on Lake Huron creates a unique and very desirable “sand deposition” zone that needs protection.  Dune preservation and restoration will only be achieved if all users are invested in its protection.

To enhance our property values and to protect Port Franks beach, it is vital that the PFBHA and Port Franks residents work to sustain the beauty of our sandy shorelines for future generations.
